Life isn’t over for people diagnosed with a memory impairing illness such as Alzheimer’s disease, Picks, Lewy Bodies, Frontal temporal lobe, and other dementias. Clinical studies have shown that implicit memory remains intact for individuals in early to mid stage disease process as well as those without disease present.
Implicit memory is the relatively unconscious or automatic memory that is used for speech, motor skills, basic memory, the five senses, and activities of daily living.
Studies have found that a regular, cognitive stimulation regime can preserve implicit memory and allow individuals to lead more rewarding and independent lives.
Early Intervention is Critically Important.
Medication is not enough. Social-behavioral interventions like the Pathways to Memory™ program are key.
The Pathways to Memory™ program uses nationally recognized cognitive measurement tools to measure outcomes and progress as a client works in the program.
The program utilizes seven (7) different modules to customize a plan that answers the individual needs and concerns of our clients.
Our goal is to help keep people safely in their home and postpone and even avoid residential care placement. We believe that this not only enriches a life, it positively impacts the whole family.
Persons who have participated in the Pathways to Memory™ program have experienced:
- an increase in cognitive ability and mental sharpness
- an increase in independence
- a decrease in common negative symptoms
- an enhanced awareness of their surroundings
- an increase in self esteem
- preservation of abilities
Support and education for the family is provided and the client is empowered to take an active role in the preservation of their abilities.
