Caregiver Blogs We Love

While we consider our blog an engaging and helpful resource for family caregivers and those in need of assistance, we also like to read a variety of other blogs. The fact is, caring for a loved one can, at times, feel insurmountable and isolating.

Certainly your healthcare provider should always be your trusted source for all medical advice, but  there’s a lot to be said for finding solace and fresh ideas in support groups.

The better a family caregiver is – physically, mentally, and emotionally – the better they can help someone else living with advanced age, an illness, or disability.

6 of Our Favorite Home Care Blogs

In the opinion of our editorial staff, here are a few of the best caregiving blogs to explore as you begin your own caregiving journey:

  1. At The Caregiver’s Voice, Brenda Avadian, MA, draws on her experience as a caregiver for her father after his Alzheimer’s diagnosis to bring joy and support to other family caregivers. She’s the author of “Finding the Joy in Alzheimer’s” and other books. Whether writing about her personal insights or interviewing others, she always offers genuine kindness and a unique sense of humor.
  2. Denise Brown has grown her print newsletter into a blog, Caregiving.com, featuring webinars, a conference, trainings, and podcasts, eight books, journals, seminars, and CareGifters, a non-profit that Brown created to gift families much-needed funds to be used however they desire – vacation, bills, etc.
  3. When some go through the experience of providing home care to family members, they have a new desire to help others who are or may soon also be in their shoes. That’s how the EldercareABC blog got its start after Steve and Sandra Joyce began caregiving for their aging parents. ABC is an acronym for “About Being Connected.” In addition to their elder care blog, they’ve put together robust resources – from product reviews to “teleclasses” on popular home care topics. “If it requires a village to raise a child, then what does it take to care for an aging parent?” they ask. Good question!
  4. The Family Caregiving Alliance® has created a space for family caregivers to blog and share their stories. “I am new to this site and after reading a few of the stories, I am glad to find out that I’m not so crazy and the emotions I have are normal,” one family caregiver/blogger confessed. And that’s why this blog is a success: It shows those who are caregiving for family members that they’re not alone in their challenges and successes on this new journey of care.
  5. Much caregiving comes to a complicated end of relief and grief. Elaine Mansfield started her eponymous blog as a place to share what she learned about loss and processing grief through her experience as a caregiver. She’s authored the book, “Leaning into Love: a Spiritual Journey Through Grief” and given a TEDx talk on these topics. She also continues to work as a hospice volunteer.
  6. For the topic of senior care, the AARP’s caregiving blog is hard to beat. Their deep library of articles contains a wealth of reliable information and advice based on sound evidence and experiences.
