Homewatch CareGivers of Denver Announces Local Winner of Family Caregiver of the Year Award

 Kimberly Wilkerson of Aurora Becomes Semifinalist for $10,000 National Award

Denver - August 18, 2011 - Homewatch CareGivers of Denver, a part of the largest and most experienced international provider of home care services announced the local winner and semifinalist for the company's National Family Caregiver of the Year award today. Wilkerson of Denver was selected for her loving care of best friend Kim Erikson. As the local winner, Wilkerson will receive a spa visit, flowers and will be among the semi-finalists for the title of National Family Caregiver of the Year and its $10,000 grand prize.

Kimberly Wilkerson and Kim Erikson were best friends and self-described "soul sisters" for over ten years. So when Kim was diagnosed with cancer Kimberly selflessly stepped in to serve as her caregiver. In the beginning Kimberly would drive Kim to her appointments and stay with her when she was un-able to take care of herself. As time went on Kim required surgery for the removal of a tumor and Kimberly sacrificed every free moment she had to be with her friend. It wasn't uncommon for Kimberly to spend nights and her lunch hours at the hospital during this time. After surgery, Kimberly prepped Kim's house for her arrival, helped with the transition and continued with her extensive care. After determining that Kim would no longer be able to stay in her home Kimberly opened her own doors and provided care in her home. After a brave battle, Kim has now since passed. Kimberly's strength, sacrifice and compassion toward her friend is a remarkable act of love which we are proud to honor with our Local Family Caregiver of the Year Award.
