It's all about losing your brain without losing your mind."
That's a quote from Michael J. Fox, who has become of the face of Parkinson's Disease for our generation. Using his celebrity and his positive approach to living with the disease, Fox's foundation has raised $285 million since 2000. Since April is Parkinson's Awareness Month, we thought we'd share some local resources and information.
Located in Golden Valley, the Struthers Parkinson's Center is considered a national leader in providing care, support and education to people affected by the disease. The center is the largest of its kind in the Midwest and offers services such as exercise, tai chi, yoga, spiritual therapy, musical therapy and horticulture treatments for those dealing with Parkinson's Disease.
Our friends at Golden Living Centers sponsor a monthly Parkinson's Disease Support Group. The group meets the first Tuesday of each month from 4 - 5pm at the Minnetonka Community Center, located at 14600 Minnetonka Blvd. in Minnetonka.
Don't forget the Parkinson's Annual Moving Day Walk, scheduled for Saturday, May 12 in Plymouth. We're volunteering at the event so look for us there!
