Levels of Service

Mrs. Jones service level needs
As people live longer their need for skilled Private Duty Home Care services continues to increase. These services cover a wide range of needs, from homemaking and companionship to medication reminders and meal preparation. Homewatch CareGivers' franchises offer a full scope of services from companion care to complex personal care and nursing coordination services.

Below is an example scenario of the various types of care that an individual may need. It also illustrates the levels of service that Homewatch CareGivers provides.

Companion Care

Mrs. Jones is 85 years old, is very independent, and is in good health. Once a week a caregiver visits to take her shopping, to the hair salon, or out for a meal. These weekly outings keep her connected to the world. In addition to these errands, the caregiver helps her with meal planning for the week, changes her linens, and does light housekeeping. The caregiver communicates with her adult children on a regular basis to keep them in the loop of her capabilities and informs the family if her capabilities are diminishing in any way.

Personal Care

Mrs. Jones has the flu, feels very weak, and is not comfortable taking a bath by herself during her illness. A caregiver now visits her 3 times a week and helps her bathe, ensures that she is staying hydrated, and helps her get dressed and to and from her bed. In addition, the caregiver keeps her company and encourages her to stay positive about her recovery. This offers peace of mind to her adult children, to have a backup for their mother in case of illness.

Nursing Coordination Services

Mrs. Jones has been diagnosed with cancer. Her children are having trouble organizing her care between the different providers involved in her treatment. To help manage their mother’s care, they hire Homewatch CareGivers to provide both a nurse and a personal caregiver. The nurse oversees the care plan and coordinates communication between all parties, including the oncologist, other medical professionals and the family. The nurse also helps coordinate Mrs. Jones’ pain management, paying attention to dosage and making sure the client is taking medication correctly. In addition, the nurse accompanies her to doctor’s appointments and comes into the home for monthly wellness checkups.

Complex Personal Care

As Mrs. Jones’ cancer progresses, her increasing needs require that she receive more complex care. Her chemotherapy leaves her very weak and unable to independently perform most daily activities. Per her wishes, her adult children have decided she can stay in her home and receive home care. In addition to her many daily personal and housekeeping needs, she also has a catheter, so the caregiver must make sure the line is clean and dry. The caregiver is trained to report any issues to the nurse coordinator, who works closely with the healthcare professionals managing Mrs. Jones’ care. Mrs. Jones’s adult children feel relieved knowing there is a caregiver whom their mother knows and trusts caring for her in her time of need.
