I was inspired to join the Homewatch Caregivers team by my personal experience caring for my father, Dr. Alan McNabb, and my mother, Audrey. Together with my brother and sister, we struggled as a family with the series of adjustments to life that are necessary when Alzheimer's and other serious health concerns set in. Those ten years crystalized my feelings for what truly matters in life: compassion, dignity, independence and loving kindness.
When Audrey and Alan passed away, I decided to use the insights I had gained through our experience together in a meaningful way. At 52 and after an early age MBA and a successful career in the banking and insurance industries, I became a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA), an internationally recognized designation which focuses on the key needs and issues concerning senior citizens. I began volunteering for the Oakville Hospital Foundation and now focus on raising funds for urgently needed medical equipment. I joined the board for the Willow Foundation, a charitable organization which raises funds to enhance the quality of life of seniors and disabled adults in the Halton Region's long term care homes and adult day programs. Most importantly, I founded Homewatch Caregivers in Halton and Mississauga and had one goal in mind: to help people maintain their independence and quality of life.
Our Director of Care, Pat Deley ECE, CSA has a wealth of experience in care management for individuals of all ages in both long term care and home settings. She has developed programs for children with special needs in Halton Region. She has managed a team of outstanding caregivers at a major assisted living facility devoted to caring for those with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. Pat continues to develop an expertise in Alzheimer's care through specialized programs at MacMaster and the Alzheimer Society.
