How are Home Health Care and Home Care Different?

    Homewatch CareGivers is generally regarded as home care agency, although in some of our locations, we provide some home health care services.  Confused?  You’re not alone.  Probably the easiest way to explain the differences is by characterizing home health care as being rehabilitative and therapeutic in nature versus home care services which help individuals maintain and sustain quality of life.

     

     

    Home Health Care

    Rehabilitative, therapeutic

    Skilled nursing

    Physical therapy

    Occupational therapy

    Provided by nurses- Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurses

     

    Home Care

    Maintain and sustain quality of life                                                    

    Personal or hands-on care

    Bathing, dressing, grooming                                                                                        

    Companionship, social interaction

    Provided by Certified Nurse Assistants, Nurse Aides, Home Health Aides and Companions

     

    Nurses and Therapists provide home health care services while Certified Nurse Assistants, Nurse Aides, Home Health Aides and Companions work for home care agencies.  The two types of services work hand-in-hand and are complementary.  We work together in the home to keep our clients comfortable and safe while helping them recover from an acute illness, injury or manage chronic illness. 

     

    Medicare is most often the source of payment for home health care, while private pay and long term care insurance typically fund home care services.  Workers’ compensation, Veterans pension benefits, grant funding from disease organizations and Medicaid may also fund home care services.
