Meet the Caregivers: Patricia Meadows

The goal of Homewatch CareGivers is to make clients’ lives better every day by focusing on what they love to do while making their lives healthier and more rewarding.

From time to time, we like to introduce our readers to the caregivers who work with these clients. Our franchisees and their caregiver employees are making a difference in the lives of the people they work with every day. This might be in the form of companionship care to keep loneliness at bay, or through more hands-on, personal care for which caregivers receive specialized training to administer.

Patricia Meadows, 25, is a caregiver for Homewatch CareGivers serving Wilmington, Delaware. Ms. Meadows received her CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certification in 2011 and quickly went to work as a caregiver. She briefly worked in a nursing home before joining Homewatch CareGivers four years ago. She is also attending college to get a nursing degree.

“I love my job for many reasons, but I guess if had to say what I like most about being a caregiver, it would be the one on one with my clients,” she said. “Especially in home care, I really get the chance to know my clients and their families—their history, their interests, and so on. When you make that connection, it really makes helping them with their activities of daily living and improving their quality of life very rewarding.”

Her training has provided her with some useful skills too. She can safely lift and transfer a patient when necessary, provide a bed bath, and she learned how work with people who are living Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

“Working as a caregiver, I have learned that every case, every person is different,” Ms. Meadows said. “Even if diagnoses are similar, patients and their families may handle things in a different ways. As a caregiver, it is important to be in tune with that and adjust accordingly in order to provide the best care.”

Each franchise location has similar stories of dedicated caregivers helping seniors to remain living independently at home. We hope you continue to follow our blog posts and stay tuned for more caregiver stories. Read about our caregivers in the Seattle area in this blog post about hiring caregivers.
