Investing In Home Care

Home Care vs. Home Health

Franchise Opportunities with Homewatch CareGivers

There are various levels of care within the healthcare spectrum, ranging from companion care in a person’s own home to the highly complex acute care that hospitals provide. Home care services provided by Homewatch CareGivers® tend to be at the less complex end of the spectrum, medically speaking, but can range from companion care, which may involve helping individuals with medication reminders and meal preparation, to more complex personal care, which can include bathing and feeding assistance for those with feeding tubes or oxygen tanks.

Discover the Steps

Homewatch CareGivers franchise owners hire home care aides and certified nursing assistants to provide companionship and personal care services—and, in some cases, more medically complex services—wherever a client calls home. The goal of home care is to allow an individual to remain living in their preferred environment for as long as possible, regardless of age or disability. Our home care services are typically paid for through private pay or long-term care insurance, and sometimes through Medicaid or VA programs.

What Is Home Health Care?

Home health care covers a wide array of skilled services in the home with the goal of treating an illness or injury. Home health care is usually intermittent, or short-term; must be supervised by medical professionals; and must strictly follow a plan of care from a physician. Since services are intended to treat or cure, home health care is often paid for by Medicare, Medicaid, or health insurance benefits. Home care and home health care are often confused with one another but often work together in the home to care for a patient’s full range of needs. Though home care agencies like ours are regulated in many states, our services at Homewatch CareGivers are generally not therapeutic or curative in nature and, therefore, are not covered by Medicare or health insurance.

Home health companies also may work in conjunction with palliative care or hospice to provide a full continuum of therapeutic services to patients and their families, especially at the end of life. Hospice usually involves a team of nurses, physicians, spiritual counselors, and volunteers who provide comprehensive support to families dealing with end-of-life issues. Most hospices are Medicare-certified. Home care services, such as those provided by Homewatch CareGivers, can deliver supplemental support to hospice patients, and home care agencies often work hand in hand with both the home health and hospice companies to provide a total care solution.
