The Caregiver Way

Caring for our individual clients is a team effort and we take the same approach with hiring caregivers. Owner Kathryn Parks leads the way by example.  The staff follows her caregiver management ideas and philosophies when it comes to identifying the best possible candidates to hire and place accordingly. We don’t just support our clients, but also our entire staff in the office and in the field.

Steps to Becoming a Caregiver

In order to be considered for a caregiver job at Homewatch CareGivers of Silver Spring, Maryland, each candidate must pass the following tests:

  • Drug tests
  • Proof of a clean TB/PPD test
  • Fingerprinting for state and federal criminal background checks
  • Reference checks in which a former supervisor vouches for your character and skills
  • Verification of current auto insurance, driver’s license, and clean record with the local Department of Motor Vehicles

Safety & Learning Matters

We go beyond what is mandated by the state of Maryland to educate and train our caregivers:

  • We require annual review and test on HIPAA laws (for new hires, then once a year for staff).
  • We require annual review and testing on Blood Borne Pathogens, Infection Control, and Abuse and Neglect Training.
  • We provide in-service training for any caregiver new to a client where specific care needs exist or technical equipment is used.
  • Since many of our clients are living with memory impairment (dementia, Alzheimer’s or something else), we require additional coursework on our online Homewatch CareGivers University platform specific to dementia. Our caregivers are paid during their training time.
