“That is such exciting news for me. Thank you so much! Wow!”, was how Lucille Da Silva responded when she learned she had been selected as the Live-in Caregiver of the Month.
Lucille came to this country from Guyana, South America in September of 2015. They had a ranch and did farming, but when they arrived here, Lucille was encouraged by her sister to become a home health aide. She and her husband took the class together and they both became CHHAs. As Lucille says,”We both love the work”.
In August she will have been doing this kind of work for five years, and she explains, “The joy that I feel when I see the client’s face relieved and happy makes me feel good. When I do not get that kind of response, I am still always nice and kind. All my clients are nice, cooperative, and friendly. I always treat them kindly. We always need to be good to them. I feel nice doing the job.”
Lucille came to work with Homewatch one year ago when she heard it was a good agency. She finds the agency very cooperative and friendly. “When I call the office, whoever answers the phone responds in a friendly and respective way. Covid just started when I applied to work for Homewatch. They made me feel okay because they checked to see I was wearing a mask, keeping socially distant as much as possible. The office would check on how I was doing. Nurse Stacey calls almost every week to see that everything is going well and brought me PPE when I needed it.” Lucille is thankful that everyone in her family stayed well and is so happy to state, “I am fully vaccinated and so is my family.”
Lastly, Lucille said,” I would like to say thank you to everyone at Homewatch CareGivers for their cooperation and everything they have done for me this past year. I am so happy to receive this recognition.”
