"They [Mom and Dad] are doing better now! I really appreciate all you did and when I need a caregiver again, I will call!"

Dementia care in Evansville, Newburgh, Princeton and
surrounding areas in southern Indiana requires a special kind of caregiver. All of our caregivers
go through regular training specifically tailored to caring for those living
with dementia. Yet, we also look for some of the qualities that we can’t train
when hiring our caregiver employees: patience and a mild manner.
When our caregivers are spending time with a client who has
dementia, they don’t focus on keeping that person busy. Instead, the talk to
them and ask them questions about themselves. We have found that people in
early to middle stages of dementia love to talk about their past—where they
were born, how many siblings they had, and about their family. Our caregivers
might also engage in activities with these clients who have dementia, so long
as it is of interest to that person.
