Doctors Ron and Heather Clark, owners, and operators of Homewatch CareGivers of Yuma, walked to support research and fund raising to find a solution to Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia which represent an increasing challenge to millions of Americans and their families. The Desert Southwest chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association sponsors walks in many locations in Arizona to promote awareness of the disease which generally affects those over 65 but affects family members of all ages. The Yuma walk raised over $30,000 and the Homewatch CareGivers of Yuma team contributed $2,325 of that amount through the gracious contributions of many who answered the invitation to be a part of the team. Many do not understand that 1 in 3 seniors will pass with some form of dementia and that Alzheimer’s disease kills more people than breast and prostate cancers combined. The first major drug and treatment breakthrough in Alzheimer’s disease is in the initial stages of use and additional resources are needed to improve from this initial treatment.
