The Caregiver Way

Elderly care can be so personal and that’s why at Homewatch CareGivers of West Hartford (serving Hartford and Tolland Counties), we want to bring the right people on board to join our company. If you are compassionate, love to make a difference, and enjoy people, caregiving might be a career for you. On this page, we’ve detailed our hiring process to help you decide if you want to join our team and bring meaning and purpose to others in this community.

Steps to Becoming a Caregiver

Here’s how we go about hiring our caregivers: asking questions about their past work experience, verifying they can pass some mandatory tests, and seeing if they meet qualifications to keep our clients happy, safe, and comfortable. Take a minute to review this list of our requirements:

  • 50-state multi-jurisdictional background check (each employee must be able to pass a criminal background and child abuse check)
  • Drug testing
  • Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) check for caregivers who will be transporting clients
  • Reference checks
  • Each caregiver is licensed, bonded and insured
  • Verification of education and certifications
  • Verification of a valid driver’s license, car insurance and reliable transportation

Safety & Learning Matters

We have a unique training here that was literally built for our caregivers. Our training center is a kitchen, bedroom and classroom space so that employees can train in a space much like one they will be working in with clients. Skills taught include:

  • Practicing proper transfer techniques
  • Operating a Hoyer lift and hospital bed
  • CPR
  • Bed baths
  • Repositioning in bed or chair
  • Ambulation assistance
