Our Story
The decision to open Homewatch CareGivers of Northwest Indiana came from a deeply personal place. My journey started during one of the most unexpected and challenging times in my life— when my mom was hospitalized. At first, we believed it would be a routine stay and a quick recovery. Instead, what unfolded was an experience that felt like a nightmare for our family.
To us, she was everything—mother, grandmother, wife, sister, daughter, cousin, anointed singer, First Lady, and friend. But to those entrusted with her care, she seemed reduced to a number, a chart, a potential “organ donor.” That realization shook me to my core. In that moment, I dropped everything to make sure my mom was not alone. I became her advocate, determined that every doctor, nurse, and staff member saw her for who she truly was—a beloved member of our family who deserved the same dignity and compassion they would want for their own loved ones.
That experience changed me. It opened my eyes to what so many families endure when a loved one needs care: feeling powerless, unseen, and afraid. Too often, people are treated as cases instead of individuals with rich stories and irreplaceable lives. Families deserve better—care that honors their loved one’s humanity, preserves their dignity, and supports their independence during life’s most vulnerable moments.
