We had to rapidly put up round-the-clock care. Homewatch put together a strong team for our father with speed and diligence. Victoria, Jesenia, and Stacy at the home office listened to us and accommodated our requests. We are really fortunate to have excellent primary caregivers. They've made Dad feel at ease throughout a challenging transition.

My father was on hospice in a memory care community in Torrance, and between my job, caring for children with disabilities at home, and southern California traffic, getting to him was its own ordeal. Some days the drive alone felt impossible — and I was frightened of what I couldn't see. Homewatch CareGivers of Long Beach and Torrance did things no other agency I called would do. They put me on video call with the caregiver right at my father's bedside. When their care management team stopped in to check on him, they brought me in on video so I could see my dad with my own eyes. When you can't just get in the car and be there in twenty minutes, that is everything. They even got my dad to move when I couldn't do it and made sure he went outside to get some sunshine that he just loved. They also had no weekly minimum hours. When I was able to be there in person, I was with my father myself and needed less care; when traffic and work kept me away for days at a time, we flexed the hours back up. Every other agency wanted me to commit to hours I didn't need. I know both sides of these issues because I deal with these kind of family issues every day. I'm a director in a physical therapy practices that specialize in treating seniors — including patients with cognitive decline, Parkinson's, and traumatic brain injury. I've spent my career leading clinicians, and I am not easy to impress. These caregivers are non-medical, and they were still among the most professional, skilled people I have worked alongside. They knew how to assist without taking over, how to protect my father's dignity, and how to work with his hospice team. They wanted to be there. Hospice was their calling, not an assignment. They became like family to me and I will forever be grateful and don't know how I would have managed without them. If you can't be there as often as you want to be, call them.
