Homewatch CareGivers of Central San Diego Connects with Agape Helpers to Support Isolated Older Adults
At Homewatch CareGivers of Central San Diego, we believe that meaningful connection is just as important as physical care. That belief was reinforced recently when our team attended an event hosted by Agape Helpers, a local nonprofit dedicated to serving one of the most vulnerable populations in our community: seniors who have been abandoned, forgotten, or left without family support.
Serving older adults throughout San Diego and Coronado, Agape Helpers works to ensure that no senior feels alone. Their mission closely aligns with our own commitment to helping older adults age in place with dignity, companionship, and personalized support.
Meeting the People Behind the Mission
During the event, we had the opportunity to meet with Agape Helpers Executive Director Dean Wakeham and learn more about the organization's inspiring work throughout San Diego County.
The organization's mission is simple but powerful: mobilize community members, churches, and local businesses to spend time with seniors who may otherwise go weeks or months without meaningful social interaction.
Dean's message to attendees was straightforward: give just one hour.
One hour to visit a senior. One hour to listen. One hour to share a conversation, learn about someone's life story, and remind them that they matter.
For many older adults, that small investment of time can make a tremendous difference.
The Growing Need for Senior Companionship in San Diego
As the population of older adults continues to grow across San Diego, Coronado, and surrounding communities, loneliness and social isolation have become increasingly important concerns for families.
