Recently, we received a call from a couple traveling in from out of town for a very special moment, the birth of their first grandchild. While the excitement was overwhelming, the trip also brought some understandable concerns.

The husband is a quadriplegic, and although the couple had traveled together before, they had never navigated a trip like this one on their own. They were coming into town to stay at a local hotel and wanted to make sure they had the support needed, so they could focus on what mattered most: meeting their grandbaby.

Overcoming Travel Challenges with Complex Care Needs

After reading the glowing Google reviews about Homewatch CareGivers of Northern Kentucky, they decided to give us a call. They explained their situation and shared that they were nervous. Traveling with complex care needs can feel overwhelming, especially in a new place without a trusted support system.

Our owner, Stacey, spoke with them personally and reassured the couple that they had come to the right place. She explained how our team could step in and support them during their visit so they could relax and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime family moment.

Seamless Planning and Personalized Support Upon Arrival

From there, our office team made the process seamless. We arranged for one of our Care Managers to meet the couple and the caregiver upon their arrival and after they checked into their hotel. The wife walked our team through her husband’s routine and specific care needs, and together we created a plan for the weekend.

Our caregiver provided hands-on support throughout their stay, assisting with bathing, toileting, transfers, and safely loading and unloading them from their vehicle so the couple could travel back and forth to the hospital. Having an extra set of experienced hands allowed the wife to focus on being present for her family instead of worrying about managing everything alone.

The Joyful Result: Being Present for a Life Milestone

The result was exactly what everyone hoped for.

The grandparents were able to be there for the birth of their first grandchild—sharing in the joy, the excitement, and the unforgettable first moments of meeting the newest member of their family.

Returning with Confidence – Repeat Care and Familiar Support

But the story didn’t end there.

A month later, the couple returned, and they called us back. This time, we were able to send the same caregiver, creating an immediate sense of comfort and familiarity. Once again, the visit was a success.
