In-Home Dementia Care in St. Petersburg and Surrounding Areas
Dementia is often viewed as a progressive, incurable, and ultimately fatal disease, with care created based on decline and disability. At Homewatch CareGivers of St. Pete Beach, we will develop a unique plan of care that focuses on abilities and not decline, one that focuses on living as full of a life as possible. The goal of in-home dementia care is to strengthen overall well-being that can be altered as the condition progresses.
Understanding Dementia: Symptoms and Challenges
Dementia is a general term for a decline in cognitive abilities that interferes with daily life. It's not a specific disease, but rather a collection of symptoms that can arise from various underlying conditions. Some common signs of dementia include:
Memory loss
Difficulty concentrating or focusing
Problems with communication
Disorientation
Changes in mood or behavior
If you suspect a loved one may be experiencing dementia symptoms, it's crucial to seek a professional diagnosis for early intervention and personalized care planning.

Types of Dementia
Dementia is caused by diseases such as Vascular, Huntington’s, Parkinson’s, Frontotemporal (FTD), Creutzfeldt-Jakob, and more. Two of the most common causes of dementia are Alzheimer’s and Lewy body dementia (LBD).
Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, affecting more than five million Americans. Typically, memory and executive function gradually decline due to degenerating brain cells. Unless the individual has other diseases or illnesses, physical deterioration does not usually occur until the disease has significantly progressed and caused impairment in basic function and motor skills necessary to physical health.
Lewy Body Dementia
Lewy body dementia is another common cause of progressive dementia. Initially, individuals may experience symptoms similar to Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s, while others may have vivid visual hallucinations. Lewy body dementia may also cause unusual sleepiness during the day, blanking out, and problems with movement like trembling.

I had wonderful care with Homewatch Care Givers while recovering from Carpal Tunnel Release surgery. The best caregiver who I had for several weeks was Nadia! She was well trained and did what I requested but also initiated ideas of how to help as well! She was pleasant and lovely to have around and made my recovery much easier! Terrika and Angie also came for a few days each and were great!

We had a wonderful care giver for my father in law the other day!! She was very kind, and patient. She knew her responsibilities and it was a pleasure to meet her and welcome her to our home. We hope to see Angelica again. It depends on who you have available for the days we need caregiver support. Thank You for your services, we look forward to meeting more of your staff. Alice Young

I am very pleased with Dinah Lee Roman and Tarika who comes for my assistance on Saturday. I appreciate the work that they provide for me and are very pleasant, kind professional, and respectful, and I’m glad that I can make them laugh and they can make me laugh, which makes us family. I am also appreciative of Mr. Mark who has been the person who really is attentive to my needs and desires for the caregivers. I also would like to think Hannah, who’s always there to inform me of where the caregiver may be late or there is no assistance for a call out or what have you she’s already always very pleasant very forthcoming and I appreciate it her as well thank you.

The entire process was flawless and thorough as we were trying to provide support to our parents who needed home care so they could remain in their home. Homewatch provided all the details to our inquiries and placed the right care giver to meet our parents needs. Mark was awesome with the onboarding and Jenn is a great care giver for our parents.
