Choosing care is personal. You want your loved one safe, comfortable, and treated with respect—and you need numbers you can plan around. Below is how pricing works in Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, and nearby neighborhoods, what affects it, and a simple way to see what your week would cost.
Have questions about costs? Let’s talk through options and sketch a ballpark.
What you’re paying for (in everyday terms)
Home care is one-to-one support at home. It can include safe bathing and dressing, mobility and transfers, toileting and incontinence care, meal prep, medication reminders, light housekeeping, rides to appointments, and companionship. Caregivers are trained, background-checked, and supervised. Routines stay familiar, and your loved one stays close to the people and places they know.
When you compare care settings, ask what’s included now and what becomes an add-on later. Also factor in normal home costs like utilities and maintenance.
Rates and minimums
Here are typical ranges for our area. Your exact rate depends on care needs and schedule.
- 4-hour visits: $35–$48/hr based on the level of support
- Companion care (4 hours, 3–4 days/week): starts around $38/hr
- 12-hour companion day: ~$36/hr for the first 9 hours; overtime applies after hour 9
- Personal care / ADLs (bathing, transfers, feeding, toileting, dressing, ambulation, incontinence): $38–$45/hr, depending on hands-on support
- Short visits (1–2 hours): $50–$70/hr when timing is flexible and a nearby caregiver is available (premium reflects travel/logistics)
- Second person in the same home: add $4–$6/hr depending on needs
- 24-hour care (two 12-hour shifts): $850–$950/day for continuous support
Minimums
- Per visit: We aim for a 4-hour minimum because very short trips are hard to staff reliably. In some cases, a 3–4 hour minimum applies based on your weekly plan.
- Per week: No weekly minimum required.
A note on fit and safety: Sometimes a male caregiver is required for safe transfers due to client size or mobility needs. These shifts usually run 7–12 hours, and the rate reflects that requirement.
Why the price changes
A few practical factors shape cost:
- Hours per week. More weekly hours often lower the hourly rate
- Type of help. Companion support differs from personal or specialized care
- Timing. Evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts can change pricing
- Visit length. Short 1–2 hour visits are premium-priced because travel time is similar to longer visits
- Two people in one home. Added support means a modest hourly add-on
If you’re comparing options, it helps to think in hours. Start small. Adjust as life changes.
