Enriching Care - Making a Difference with Care

Can your loved one still enjoy life’s simple pleasures? Do daily activities provide meaning in the life of loved ones?

The ability to perform daily tasks and partake in easy delights can allow a person to feel—and even be—independent and capable. At Homewatch CareGivers, we believe that by reconnecting  with meaningful care we can combat the isolation of aging and restore fulfillment to the Golden Years. This is done through engaging, enriching, and empowering care provided by specially trained caregivers.

Our approach to care is based in part on The Eden Alternative’s person-directed philosophy. “It is dedicated to creating care environments that promote quality of life for Elders and those who support them as care partners. Research has shown this leads to improved quality of care and higher rates of satisfaction for everyone involved." For information, go to www.edenalt.org.

This, Not That

With a person-directed approach to caregiving, the emphasis is on helping an individual to the best of their current abilities so that they continue to feel empowered. Here are a few tips for family caregivers to use as they adjust their own day-to-day caring for a loved one:

THIS

✓ Cook Together
✓ Adapt tasks to current abilities
✓ Be spontaneous
✓ Maintain simple daily pleasures
✓ Join in with their favorite activity

NOT THAT

✗ Prepare and serve every meal to someone
✗ Telling someone what they can no longer do
✗ Following a routine even when it is dull
✗ Eliminating their choices
✗ Leaving them alone with no shared engagement
