Inspired by Experience, these WA Franchisees Truly Show Passion for Care

Homewatch CareGivers franchise owners Joseph and Marilyn Hillyer have been providing high-quality care to members of their community in Pierce County, WA since 2017.

The Hillyers have several years of experience as personal caregivers to their family members, and currently care for Joe’s mother. Along with their passion for providing the best possible care to seniors, the couple opened Homewatch CareGivers of Tacoma after realizing that their values aligned well with the company's commitment to treating each individual as a whole person, rather than viewing others as a product of their diagnoses, conditions or illnesses.

“Having gone through the hardships and rewards of caregiving, I am better able to choose the kind of caregivers I want working for our company,” Marilyn says. “Compassion, understanding and resilience are three characteristics our caregivers must possess in order to work for our company.”

Prior to opening their Homewatch CareGivers location, Joe served as an officer in the U.S. Army and moved into a role in government contracting post-retirement. Marilyn ran her own medical insurance company until 2007, when she took time off to raise the couple’s four children.

In their free time, Marilyn and Joe enjoy their children’s hobbies as a family, whether that be supporting them at their karate tournaments across the country as well as international destinations, taking them to their music lessons or walking the family’s dog at the park.

The Hillyers are a prime example of Homewatch CareGivers' successful and passionate franchisees.
