Steps to Becoming a Caregiver
Start with a smile and a positive attitude when you come in for the interview. Next, in order to join this office as a caregiver, the following requirements must be met:
- State and federal background checks
- Criminal background checks
- Motor vehicle record checks
- Personal and professional reference checks
- Pre-employment and random drug testing
- TB tests, as required by the state of North Carolina
- Efficiency in CNA (Certified Nursing Aide) skills such as bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, meal prep
Safety & Learning Matters
Every caregiver has to participate in orientation and training before they go to a client’s home and provide any personal or companion caregiving services. These are some of the mandatory trainings:
- HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) course
- Bloodborne pathogen training
- Documentation training
- Aptitude test
