Steps to Becoming a Caregiver

Start with a smile and a positive attitude when you come in for the interview. Next, in order to join this office as a caregiver, the following requirements must be met:

• State and federal background checks
• Criminal background checks
• Motor vehicle record checks
• Personal and professional reference checks
• Pre-employment and random drug testing
• TB tests, as required by the state of North Carolina
• Efficiency in CNA (Certified Nursing Aide) skills such as bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, meal prep

Safety & Learning Matters

Every caregiver has to participate in orientation and training before they go to a client’s home and provide any personal or companion caregiving services. These are some of the mandatory trainings:

• HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) course
• Bloodborne pathogen training
• Documentation training
• Aptitude test
