Home Health Care versus Home Care

It can sometimes be confusing to understand the difference between which services home health care agencies provide and which services home care agencies provide. Some people and organizations use these terms synonymously. Home health care agencies provide in-home nursing services and physical, occupational, and speech therapies, social worker and nutrition services. Home health care's focus is restorative or rehabilitative care and is typically paid for by Medicare Part A.

Home care agencies provide in-home, and sometimes facility, caregiving services such as bathing, dressing, grooming, housekeeping, laundry, transportation, companionship, fall prevention, cooking, med reminders and exercise assistance to name just a few. Services are most commonly paid for through private pay, although it can sometimes be covered through Medicaid, long term care insurance, the VA, workers compensation and the Idaho Commission on Aging.

Home health and home care agencies often work together to care for a patient/client. While home health focus on nursing and therapy services totaling typically about 3-5 hours a week, home care agencies can provide anywhere from a couple of hours one day a week to 24/7, based on the needs and wants of the client. Homewatch CareGivers provides these home care caregiving services to our clients who live in Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Eagle, Caldwell, Emmett, Star, Middleton, Marsing, Homedale and sometimes Mountain Home and Idaho City.
