Benefits of Home Health

caregiver helping her client

Author: Nate Benjamin, Owner of Homewatch CareGivers serving Boise

There are some clients/patients who think that they need to choose between home health and home care. I’ve explained in my previous posts the difference between Home Health Care verses Home Health and How Home Health and Home Care Work Together in the home. In this post I would like to further explain the benefits our clients receive when they are able to qualify for and receive home health services.

First of all home health can provide nursing services such as: wound care, tube feedings, catheter changes, observing and assessing your condition, injections and teaching people how to do their own injections, catheter changes, medication management, managing and evaluation your care plan. These services are a great help to our clients/patients to help them live and thrive at home and stay out of the hospital or skilled nursing facilities.

Secondly, home health can provide therapy services which can include physical therapy, occupational therapy and sometimes speech therapy. Physical therapy includes training on walking and training and supervision on how to regain strength and movement in the body. This is excellent for fall prevention! Occupational therapy assists patients with safely performing activities of daily living, sometimes making modifications to the way a patient has performed these activities in the past. These include activities such as dressing, bathing, getting in and out of bed, and eating to name just a few. Speech therapy can help patients with eating and swallowing difficulties and help strengthen speech and language skills.
