Using LTCi Benefits for Home Care

In order to qualify to receive Long Term Care Insurance Benefits (LTCi benefits), most policies require a policy holder to need assistance with at least two Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) or have cognitive impairment. Standard LTCi policies include 5 or 6 of the following ADLs:

  • Ambulation (mobility and transfers)
  • Bathing & Showering (washing the body)
  • Grooming (including brushing, combing and styling hair or personal hygiene)
  • Feeding (not including chewing or swallowing)
  • Dressing
  • Toileting (completing the act of urinating & defecating)

Long Term Care Insurance Claim Payment Secrets
Mitch Abrams, managing director of Homewatch CareGivers Northshore, was recently interviewed by LifeHealthPro.com to get his insight on the subject of long term care insurance and what his top rated Chicago area home care agency does to assist clients in using these LTCi benefits to pay for in-home care services.

“About 42 percent of our clients have some kind of private LTCi coverage, compared with a percentage of about 5 percent to 10 percent at a typical home care agency.” says Abrams. “We have developed a very good system for seeking reimbursement from private long-term care insurance (LTCI) companies.”

The high use of private LTCI is partly the result of the fact that the home care agency is based in Northbrook, Ill., and operates in affluent North Shore communities near Chicago. But the agency also has a high percentage of private LTCI patients because it takes responsibility for filing LTCI claims with insurers and resolving problems with claim payments.

If you need the help, we can get you qualified and approved for service. The home care services we provide using LTCi benefits are flexible and based on the client’s individual needs and requirements.
