Family Caregivers: We’re Here For You with CDPAP

As people live longer lives, there is a greater need for in home care. Statistics show that the vast majority of people prefer to age in place, that is, to remain in their own homes as they age. Yet sometimes due to age or illness, or person needs help in the home. Professional home care is often the solution, but there can be barriers to getting that help, including finances or reluctance to interact personally with strangers.

In the state of New York, the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) provides an alternative way to receive home care services that can be a benefit to both care recipients and their family caregiver.

This Medicaid program is for chronically ill or disabled persons who need help with things like running errands, dressing, grooming, and much more. Homewatch CareGivers serving Nassau County, NY, has been approved as a fiscal intermediary for this program and we are so glad to be part of consumers having more choice in who cares for them.

Traditionally, our company has offered—and continues to offer--professionally trained and background checked caregivers who we selectively match with clients for a variety of needs. The CDPAP allows people to instead hire someone already close to them that is not a member of our quality staff. Our role as a fiscal intermediary is to process payment for the selected assistant or caregiver and continuing to ensure that that person is still capable of providing the needed services.

Please visit the New York Department of Health website to find out if you are eligible for CDPAP. Or contact us to learn more about our role in CDPAP.
